So, my wife has finally convinced
me to do it. Ever since I got my call to Finland she has wanted to go to.
When we first got married she "bugged" me about going all of
the time. I truly did want to go, but we had to make sure that we were
responsible with getting our life started together before we left. In
September she really wanted to go, but I had just gotten a new job (doing
customer service in Finnish) and did not have any time off. The company I
work for does not differentiate between paid time off and sick leave, so I had
to make sure that I had enough PTO before we made plans to go to Finland.
I had to tell my sweet wife that we had to wait even though I really
wanted to go. It just didn't seem sensible to buy tickets nearly 10 months
in advance because I could not predict the future and would have no way of
knowing whether or not I could get sick and end up using all of my PTO.
Well a month ago my wife got it
into her system again to look at airfare to go to Finland. Low and behold
the prices were very inexpensive. When she told me about it I thought boy
would it be nice to go to Finland, if only we could. Well as it turns out
I didn't end up needing to use any of my PTO and I have over 100 hours to use.
So we booked the flights and we are going in May for our first
anniversary! I am super excited. We were also able to buy the
tickets in euros which actually, believe it or not, made the tickets even
cheaper. I can’t wait to show my wife how great Finland is, and to have
her meet many of the people I came to know while I was there. I am also
excited for an opportunity to do more missionary work while we are there.
It is going to easily be the best trip ever, especially compared to our
last summer’s trip. So folks, we are going to Finland!
